Kundapur: New record in the history of Konkani stage - 10/22/2009

Kasargod, October 21: In the history of Konkani dramas there is no record of presenting a three drama fete by a single director. The famous artist and theatre personality Kasargod Chinna has created sorts of record by directing three dramas. The drama fair was held at Bhandarkar’s college, Kundapur.





All the three dramas presented were directed by Chinna. Now comedy dramas are becoming famous but the dramas directed by Chinna are serious dramas. The dramas were presented in three different languages, Kannada, Malayalam and Bengali.

The three dramas are:
Eklo- Aneklo: source- Good Knight (Malayalam), writer – N N Pillai.

Karmadheena: source- Siddhathe (Kannada), writer – P Lankesh.

And the third drama is : Ganti: source- Kanchana Ganga (Bengali), writer – Shanbhumitra Amith Maithra.


Udupi: ‘Balamuri Shankha’ added to the Shiroor Mutt’s antique museum - 10/14/2009

UdayavaniUdupi, October 14: 3 centurions rare ‘Balamuri Shankha’ has been brought to the museum of Shree Shiroor Mutt Seer Laxmivaratheertha Swamiji. A representative of Hyderabad dynasty has donated this one and half feet long conch to Shiroor Mutt’s antic museum.





The conch has been covered with silver. Hakik and precious stones were encrusted in an attractive manner. A picture of cobra has been designed in silver.





Speaking to ‘Udayavani’ Shiroor Seer said that specialty of this conch exquisitely decorated and also can be blown.

The museum will be built rear side to the mutt in the right occasion of Paryaya. We already have the collection of several antic pieces. Those will be arranged in a good-looking manner, and the same will be exhibited, he said.

Dubai, Oct 11: “Karaval Milan”, an association based in Dubai comprising 19 parishes from Kallianpur and Kundapur varado mesmerized the full house crowd during their cultural entertainment programme “Karavalichin Lharan” at Crystall Hall of India Sports Club here, recently. 









The programme began with a prayer dance “Deva Tun Zavnasai Mog” by Annette Lewis, daughter-in-law of former president of Karnataka Lalita Kala Academy Peter Lewis. Then stage was taken over by Rony Byndoor, who is regarded as one of the most popular singer of Karaval. Rony Byndoor led the entertainment part with the number “Sopna Sundari”. The selection of songs was doctor-ordered for a wholesome entertainment. Glen and Sabitha sang “Kalzanth Ullas Bharla”, young talent Delina D’Cunha sang “Don Varsan Pashaar Zalin” and Avena, Anitha as well as Aroma Lewis sang “Wonder Wall”.












Rony Byndoor’s “ Noorondu Nenapu” - a Kannada number from movie ‘Bandhana’ brought all the couples on stage to dance and the dance continued for  wonderful numbers like “Jab Koi Baath Ban Jaay” from Glen and Jyothi , “Mogachen Geeth” by Rony and Gretta, “Ek Pyaar Ka Nagma” from Sabitha and “Ekvotaylan” from Glen Mendonca.





















Entertainment part continued with the numbers “Nidhaa” by Robert Fernandes Udyavara, “Daddy” by Stany and Delina, “Raise me Up” by Avena Lewis, “Mathen Bhor Pangur Dorina” by Rony Byndoor and Sabitha, “Wilma Maria” by Glen Mendonca and “Ye Adkulya, Ye Budkulya” by Rony and team.











A small stage programme was also held wherein Karaval Milan secretary James Pius D Souza presented a brief report. Rony Byndoor briefed about “Karaval Milan” and its various activities. Henry D Paula, Editor – Kutam Weekly and his wife were felicitated by Karaval Milan’s founder president Charles Mascarenhas. As this program was organinsed without the collection of any spornsorships, all the sponsors & supporters of previous events of Karaval Milan were felicitated during occassion. President Eric D'souza was present on the stage during the stage felicitation program.











Paula in his brief address congratulated Karaval Milan and all associations in Dubai for keeping Konkani alive. He was of the opinion that Konkani awareness is more in Gulf than Mangalore and Mumbai. Budding talent of Karaval Milan Goldina D’Souza was also honoured during the programme for her continued support to Karaval Milan.   





















Apart from singing, wonderful dances were also performed by young kids of Karaval Milan. Members from Kemmannu Flowers presented energetic “Goyncho Mando” and also Sabita & Kate performed a dance from the film ‘Dil Bole Hadippa’. A comedy skit “Pandithache Pisant Puth” was presented by Byndoor Catholic Association. Noted keyboard player James Fernandes Fernandes provided the background music for the entire programme. For charity purpose American auction, Housie–Housie and lucky dip were conducted. Different spot games were conducted and attractive prizes were distributed. The programme concluded with non-stop baila dance by Rony Byndoor and group. The entire program was compered by Wilson d'sa & Jyothi Mendonsa






















Kota: Yakshagana Artist Chittani Ramchandra Hegade Gets ‘Dr kota Shivaram Karanth Huttoora Prasthasti’ - 10/11/2009

Udupi, Oct 11:  An award in the name of Jnanapeetha Award recipient Dr Kota Shivaram Karanth, promoted by Kotathattu Grama Panchayath, was presented to Yakshagana artist Chittani Ramachandra Hegade in a programme held at Kota Giliyaru Shanbavi Vidyadayini School on Saturday October 10.





 
Speaking after the presentation of the ‘Dr Shivaram Karanth Huttoora Prashasthi’ member of parliament D V Sadananda Gowda said, “Dr Shivaram Karanth was a man who believed in discipline, punctuality, and values. But now only values remain in the society; no one follows it. We need to follow the values of great people like Dr Karanth”.







The book ‘Grama Swarajya’ was also released during the programme by A G Kodgi, chairman, Third Finance Commission Report Implementation Committee.
 
The programme was inaugurated by Kundapur MLA Haladi Shrinivasa Shetty.  MLC Kota Shrinivas Poojary, Kotathattu grama panchayat president Vishwaprakashini Hande, zilla panchayat member Shankar Kundar, taluk panchayat member Jyothi Girish, film actor Balaraj, education expert K R Hande, businessman V Mohan, and zilla panchayat member Shankar Poojary were present. 
 




Award committee honorary president A C Kunder welcomed all and Narendra Kumar Kota conducted the programme.
 
This is the fifth year that the award has been presented. In the first year, it was presented to current union minister Veerappa Moily. Former State Lokayukta Venkatachala, education expert K R Hande, and journalist Ravi Belagere are the other recipients of this award. 


Dubai: Kemman Fest 09 celebrated by Kemmannu flowers - 10/5/2009

Dubai Oct 4 : ‘Kemmannu Flowers-U A E’  a fast growing group of Kemmanites, celebrated a full day programme ‘Kemmannu Fest -2009’ , on the occasion of their fourth anniversary, at Karama Hotel, Dubai, U.A.E.  On October 2, 2009, the Patrons Day of St. Theresa Church, Kemmannu.



The programme began  around 12.30 pm with a Prayer song by  members, Rony D’Souza, Melwyn Fernandes, Ida Fernandes and Clarice D’souza followed by St.Theresa’s Patron’s Hymn of Kemmannu Parish. Annual Report (Vardi) was read by Ida Fernandes   The President, Arvin Quadros welcomed the audience with his meaningful words.  



Main Sponsor Frank Fernandes, Managing Director of Mosaco Shipping & Forwarding and Walter Nandalike, Editor-in-chief of daijiworld.com, and Dayan D’Souza, convener of Daiji Rang Mandhir were the chief guests on the occasion, were  also honoured by the president with bouquet of flowers. 



Walter Nandalike, Frank Fernandes, Dayan D’Souza and Arvin Quadros lit the lamp and inaugurated the event in commemoration of fourth anniversary of Kemmannu Flowers.
The Konkani music album of the movie ‘KAZAR’, produced by Frank Fernandes and  by his son Larry Fernandes, was released during the event.



A brief felicitation was also held by the organizers on the occasion. Manohar Thonse  hailing from  Kemmannu,  a veteran journalist  who  has contributed  several articles to news papers and magazines like ‘Patrapushpa’, ‘Mogaveera’ also  the receipient of  several awards like , Suvarna Kannadiga 2006 award, Suvarna Ratna 2007 award,Vishwamanya Kannadiga Award 2008 was felicitated.

Speaking on the occasion, Walter Nandalike and Dayan D’Souza admired the Kemmannu flowers for their thoughtfulness in honouring Manohar Thonse and  wished them bright future and success in their goal.

Well known Band ‘Sweet melodies’ enthralled the crowd with their melodious numbers and Roshan D’Silva of Vamanjoor compered the event.

Budding kids Master Maclean and baby Rhea danced for the first time in their debut appearance in the presence of  Kemmannu crowd with their Hindi dance numbers ‘Disco Dancer/Jootha hai Japani’ and ‘mayya mayya’ songs respectively. Master Sam D’Souza, as usual, thrilled the audience with his exciting dance mix ‘Merjani Merjani and Aloo Chat’.   Dance by Ida and Party ‘Goa baila’ enchanted the audience.  A romantic Kannada dance number ‘Anusitide yako yendu’ from a super hit kannada film ‘Mungaru Male’ was presented by Ronald D’Souza and Clarice D’Souza, captivated the crowd. Another Hindi Hit dance number ‘Desi Girl’ by Nancy and Party also enthralled the crowd.

The Hilarious comedy skits by Stany Dcunha and Party, Melwyn and party, Sheldon and Hazel had the crowd in splits with their superb acting.

The crowd was entertained by Kemannu Members  with Konkani and Hindi songs. which were  enjoyed by the crowd.

Grand finale came in the form of a Novelty dance and live Mangalorean Baila dance.  There were Spot Prizes, games for kids and adults, Novelty Dances, entry ticket draws with fabulous prizes.  Sumptuous buffet lunch was also served.

Melwyn Fernandes on behalf of Kemmannu Flowers in his address thanked the main sponsor, sponsors, well wishers and those  who rendered a helping hand directly or indirectly in making the event a memorable one.

More than 130 people participated on the day long event, which was a grand success.   Gift Hampers were given away to all participants.
