Kundapur: Hotel Shalom Inaugurated - 11/1/2008
Vinaya Pais, Kudapur for KMKundapur, Nov 2: Newly built Hotel Shalom, located in the heart of the town was inaugurated recently at Kundapur.
Speaking on the occasion after inaugurating the hotel, president of Kundapur Town Municipality Mohandas Shenoy advised the hotel, which has been set up with new management, to serve the locals as well as tourists efficiently. At the same time, it should conserve environment and keep the neighbourhood hygienic and tidy, he advised. He conveyed his best wishes to the promoters of the hotel.
The customers should be treated with love and respect and special attention should be extended to them, so that they cherish and carry home the sweet memories along with them, said the parish priest of Kundapur Ward Fr Alban D'Souza, blessing the staff and the hoel management on the occasion.
Former President of town Municipality Gunaratna, Councillor Cecilia Kotian, Priest of Tallur Church Fr Benjamin D'Souza, Priest of Pius Nagar Church Fr John Walter Mendonca and Owner of the hotel Shalom Joachim D'Souza and others were present.

Pius Nagar: Golden Jubilee Celebrations of St Pius Church Begins - 10/31/2008
Vinaya Pais, Kundapur for KMPius Nagar, Oct 31: The golden jubilee celebrations of the parish of St Pius church, Hanglur, near here, were recently launched by Fr John Walter Mendonca, parish priest
A committee was formed under the chairmanship of Fr Walter Mendonca, assisted by parish council vice-president Wilfred D’Souza and other parish council members, in order to undertake several developmental works at the parish. The parish has more than 360 families.
A thanksgiving was offered by the Episcopal vicar of Udupi deanery, Fr Baptist Menezes, on the occasion along with Fr Alban D’Souza of Kundapur parish, Fr Alfonse D’Lima, Fr Lewis D’Sa, Fr Rocky D’Souza, Fr Walter D’Mello, Fr Anil Cornelio, Fr Xavier Pinto, Fr Boniface D’Souza and Fr Prakash Coutinho.
Parish priest Fr Mendonca welcomed the gathering ad urged the parishioners to extend their services in making the celebrations a success.

Brahmavar: Bishop Inaugurates DCCW Annual Convention at Brahmavar - 10/29/2008
daijiworldUdupi, Oct 29: Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza of inaugurated Mangalore Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (DCCW) convention at S M S Community hall, Brahmavar, near here on Wednesday October 29 morning. Bishop symbolically picked up a chit out of the several chits on which were written various issues plaguing women all over the country.
The theme of the convention is 'various aspects of women empowerment'. Bishop Dr Aloysius speaking on the occasion said that God created women to carry on His mission on earth. However, women are being oppressed, marginalized and subjected to gender discrimination at work places all over the world. The educated women can make a difference in the life of women at large, if they empower themselves with various aspects of women rights entrusted by government and the Church.
Bishop further said that woman plays a key role in every family. They have also been seen as important members of Mother Church in Mangalore diocese. Through Stree Sanghatan, women are organized and empowered. Stree Sanghatan is proving to a vital part of local church and it is carrying out Christ's mission in its own way benefiting the entire society, he added.
It is observed here that the parents are eager to get their daughters settled through marriage at the earliest. This trend ought to be changed giving daughters enough time to settle down after encouraging them to take up higher studies.
DCCW president Leena Roche welcomed Bishop Dr Aloysius in a unique way to the tunes of melodious of voveo. St Mary's Syrian Orthodox Church, Brahmavar, vicar Fr Ramban G S Scaria also welcomed Bishop by garlanding and women members of Holy Family Brahmavar parish council welcomed Bishop by presenting him with flower bouquets.
DCCW director Fr Roland Coutinho, St Peter's Church Barkoor parish priest Fr Remedius Aranha, Holy Family Church Bramavar parish priest Fr Denis Saldanha, Bramavar social worker Clara Lewis, Veronica Cornelio Kemman, John Mariabhoomi Udyavar, Sr Mariet of Kolalgiri convent, DCCW vice-presidents Mabel D Souza and Gladys Menezes, DCCW former president Renni Pille, DCCW treasurer Lynette D'Souza and resource person Prof Leena Fernandes were present on the dais.
DCCW Shirva varado president Maria Jacinta Mathias and Shirva varado vice-president Mabel Menezes compered the programme and DCCW Kallianpur varado president Cynthia Dias proposed vote of thanks.
DCCW members from across the Mangalore diocese have been participating in this annual day-long convention.

Kundapur: Home Minister inaugurated the new Municipality Commercial Complex - 10/28/2008
Vinaya Pais, Kundapur for KMKundapur, Oct 28: A commercial complex, located near the old bus stand of the town, was inaugurated recently.
The complex has been constructed at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore under the Integrated Development of Small and Medium Towns (IDSMT) project.
Speaking on the occasion after inaugurating the complex, state home minister and the district-in-charge minister Dr V S Acharya said that such complexes would not just enhance the income of the municipalities and local bodies but also provide additional facilities to the public.
Presiding over the occasion the city MLA Haladi Srinivas Shetty said that with the construction of new complexes, more jobs would be available for the unemployed youths, as new shops, offices etc. come up in the complex.

Kundapur: Scholarships Distributed to Children of Van, Auto Drivers - 10/24/2008
Vinaya Pais, Kundapur for KMKundapur, Oct 25: The auto rickshaw driver’s association of Kundapur taluk (CITU) recently distributed scholarships to the children of rickshaw and van drivers. H Karunakar presided over the function which was held at the association office.
Valentine D’Souza, circle inspector, Kundapur range, was the chief guest. Journalist Shashidhar Hemmady was present on the occasion. K Shanker of CITU and Mahabala Voderhobli, union leader of beedi workers, were on the dais.
Speaking on the occasion, D’Souza observed that the Kundapur taluk auto drivers’ association was the first to initiate such welfare activity.
He encouraged the recipients of scholarships to work hard to reach their goals despite the hurdles that they might encounter. Hemmady, Shanker, and Voderhobli also spoke on the occasion. The executive of the students’ scholarship council, Deepa S Kharvi and secretary V Chandra, were present on the occasion.
Among the council members present were Ramesh, Ganesh, Umesh, Laxman Barekatte, Krishna Devadiga, Anya, Ramadevadiga, and Ravi Shetty. On behalf of the beneficiaries, Namrata spoke. Ramanath Bhandary monitored the programme. Raju Devadiga gave the vote of thanks.
