Udupi: Eid-Ul-Fitr Celebrations Bring Tidings of Joy and Love to All - 10/1/2008
daijiworldUdupi, Oct 1: It was as if the entire city was decked with bright colours on Wednesday October 1 morning. Muslim brethren dressed in new and bright attire gave a special look to the city as they gathered in huge numbers to celebrate Eid-Ul-Fitr at Jamia mosque, Noorani mosque at Indrali and at other places on Wednesday.
Devotees offered prayers also at Anjuman burial grounds, located near Diana circle. It was fun-time for children as they hugged each other and extended festal wishes to elders and peers alike. Eid-Ul-Fitr considered being the summit of love, peace and universal brotherhood brought tidings of fraternal love and good will to all.
Meanwhile police had taken all measures to ensure that celebrations sailed smoothly and without any hindrances.

Manipal: Work Begins on New District Headquarters Building - 10/1/2008
daijiworldUdupi, Sep 30: MLA Raghupathy Bhat inaugurated the work on the new district headquarters that is being developed at End Point in Manipal, on Tuesday September 30. Speaking on the occasion, Bhat said that the construction of the new district headquarters would cost around Rs 19.90 crore and is being executed by Devi Prasad Construction Private Limited, Bangalore.
The Ambagilu–Perampalli–Manipal End Point road will be broadened to provide easy access to the district headquarters from all directions. Besides, a bus terminus will also be erected close to the complex for the convenience of commuters.
The new building will be ready by April 2009 and is likely to be inaugurated in ring May. It will house all government departments, zilla panchayat, taluk panchayat, office of district-in-charge minister, as well as information and broadcasting.
Meanwhile, an indoor stadium will be built at Ajjarkad at a cost of Rs 2.25 crore, added Bhat. Municipal councilor Dinakar Shetty, member Ravi Amin, and contractor Vasudev Shetty, were present.

Mumbai: Narayana Kharvi Felicitated in Mumbai - 9/29/2008
daijiworldMumbai, Sep 29: Narayan Kharvi, the newly-appointed president of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, was felicitated by community brethren in the metro on Saturday September 27. The programme was organized by Konkani Kharvi Samaj Welfare Association at Vishnu Park, Virar. Speaking on the occasion, Kharvi expressed the need for Konkani people to get organized in working for the cause of language, culture, literature, and people. It is only the Kharvi Konkani community that has retained all its cultural arts even today. Fire dance, which is a rare and popular art, is now practiced only by this community, he said.
Konkani is being taught in the schools of Karnataka with the chief objective of getting Konkani students to study the language. Kharvi expressed the need to set up a Maharashtra Konkani Sahitya Academy as there is a large number of Konkani-speaking people in the metro. Association president Ramnath Sarang, vice-president Ravi Kharvi Bhatkal, secretary Ganapaty Patel, joint secretary Suresh Pandit, treasurer Das Kharvi, committee members Udaya Kharvi, Jaganath Nayak, Ashok Gangolli, Pramod Sarang, Narendra Pandit, K C Naik, Prakash Sarant, and Shankar Kharvi, were also present on the occasion. Jagjeevan Nayak presided over the felicitation programme. Ganshyam Mestri, representing the Sri Krishna Commission, was the chief guest on the occasion. Ramnath Sarang felicitated Kharvi.

Dubai: Byndooriens in UAE celebrated Monthi Feast. - 9/27/2008
BCADubai, Sept 26: Byndoor Catholic Association, Dubai celebrated the Feast of Nativity of Mother Mary -‘Monthi Fest’ on 26th at BCA’s Hon’ President Rudolph Pereira’s residence.
The celebration began with a prayer and a Hymn ‘Sobit Fulam’ sung by committee members . BCA’s Hon.President Rudolph Pereira welcomed the gathering.
Members of & Children entertained the gathering with their melodious songs, mesmerizing dances & comedy skits.
Different kinds of vegetable delicacies were prepared by the members itself and served during the occassion & also the traditional ‘Vorn’ was served with blessed ‘Novem’.
Around 115 Byndoorians were present for this wonderful occasion. President Robert Gras proposed vote of thanks.

Whatever steps taken or the programme’s organized always Karaval Milan has emrged has winner. No doubt Almighty Lord and Mother Mary has blessed Karaval Milan abundantly. For thanking Almighty and Mother Mary, Karaval Milan members along with their families had gathered to celebrate the Feast of Nativity at the Residence of Clarence Fernandes (Nanu Marol Thoottam) on 19th Firday.
Programme started at 08.00 PM with a warm welcome from Karaval Milan President Ronald Nazreth, Byndoor. Immediately after Pius James D Souza has taken over the stage for his Prayer service. All the childrens entered in procession to offer the flowers to Mother Mary. Traditional hymns like “Sakkat Sangatha Melyan “and “Moriyek Hogolsiyan “were sung by the gathering. Childrens offered the Flowers to Mother Mary.
After offering the flowers President Ronal Nazreth in his speech condemned the attack on Christians in Mangalore & declared that Karaval Milan extends its full support for our brethren in Mangalore. Special prayers were offered for restoring peace in native place.
On the occasion to mark the 3rd Anniversary of www.karavalmilan.com , Committee members cut the cake along with Editor Sunil Fernandes, Kota. Also strong pillars of Karaval Milan, Lawrence & Dora D Almeida, Eric & Gretta D Souza cut the cake for completing their 15 Years of Happy Married Life.
Exiting games were conducted by Prakash Rebello and Pius for children’s and elders. Prizes were distributed to the winners. Which were sponsored by Lawrence D’almeida.
Mind blowing music by Goldina D’Souza kept the audience busy in dancing. Melodious songs were sung by Rony Byndoor, Nelson Lewis, Glen Mendonsa & others.
Authentic and Traditional food was served during the occasion. This was sponsored by Eric D’souza.
Vice President Nanu Marol Thottam proposed vote of thanks.
