Udupi: Daijiworld office inaugurated in Udupi - 7/19/2008

daijiworld

Udupi, Jul 18: Daijiworld.com's second office in the coastal districts was formally inaugurated on Friday July 18, 2008 at the Roof Top Hall of Hotel Kediyoor here.

Sri Sri Sri Vidyaprasannateertha Swamiji of Subrahmanya Math declared opened the office after lighting the lamp during the programme which commenced around 10.00 am on Friday.

Earlier, Fr Mathew Vas, Vicar Var of Udupi Varado blessed the office which is situated on the third floor of Maithri Complex near Service bus stand here at 9.30 am

The inaugural event started with a prayer from little Jasmine Mendonca.

Fr Mathew Vas presided over the programme. Gautham Pai of Manipal Media Network was the chief guest while Shahnaz M, Editor of Anupama Kannada monthly was the guest of honour present on the occasion.

While addressing the gathering Sri Sri Sri Vidyaprasannateertha Swamiji asked the media to shift their concentration from crime news to peace-related news. "Currently the media is mainly concentrating on various sensational news and illustrations carried by the section of media is more of brutality, crime happenings than the balanced news. It is owing to this kind media, today a family cannot sit and watch the television together," he lamented.

"Media does a lot of good work, but also we see bad content in it. Media should not sensationalize personal life of individual at any cost and at any point of time" was his piece of advice to the media fraternity.

"Daijiworld’s role in media is indeed praiseworthy as it reaches masses and has been instrumental in bridging the gap that prevails between caste, creed, haves and have nots. Daijiworld has grown into powerful media today. Everyday it attracts new readers to its fold. This clearly indicates that it is upholding social values in its news coverage," Swamiji hailed.

Website comes ahead of daily newspaper and hence people need not wait for the next day to get the news as it relays the news on the same day, the Swamiji added.

While Media can bring changes the society through good things, there is also a possibility of media misleading people with its unwanted and false sensational news. Yet media is the most powerful tool today than anything else" he opined.

The Chief guest of the programme Gautham Pai said "Media has more role to play in today's context. The print media is more authentic than others because it has all the time in the world to authenticate the news. But other media like TV or internet has very little time to verify the news as it needs to break the news within minutes."

Pai appreciated daijiworld'sefforts in popularizing the site. He observed that despite the global slowdown in IT sector during 2001, Daijiworld had taken the initiative swimming against the current then and it is because of this that it is so popular and successful today.

The electronic media has very good scope today. But it is also up against innumerable challenges, he observed.

Shahanaz M shared her personal experience of Daijiworld with the audience. Though she does not visit Daijiworld on daily basis, she acknowledged the publicity she received abroad for her profile, news items which were published by www.daijiworld.com.

"When I went to Dubai, people from all around were calling me and congratulating me after seeing the news about me on Daijiworld. I realized the true importance of this website when I went abroad," she exclaimed.

Whatever news it might be, media should stand by truth and publish unbiased report. Whatever the media carries should be truthful and nothing else other than the truth should adorn news columns. Come what may, media should never bend to the whims and fancies of capitalists, she advised.

When Swamiji complimented Shahanaz for her brave and qualitative journalism through Anupama Kannada monthly, the latter returned the compliment saying that the Swamiji had delivered a very meaningful and powerful speech, contents of which were not only heart-touching but were encouraging to uphold humane values.

In his presidential address Fr Mathew Vas complimented Daijiworld for its success and said as how helpful this media has been to share the news among the people spread across the Coastal Karnataka as well as abroad. ", I do not sleep without visiting Daijiworld at least once in a day,” he said and asked press people to be more responsible and unbiased in reporting.

Kishoo Barkur of Kishoo's Enterprise and franchisee responsible for Daijiworld's Udupi office the proposed vote of thanks
