Barkur: Parish Feast of St. Peter's Church and ICYM Anniversary - 12/22/2007

Parish Feast 2007 and ICYM anniversary were celebrated at St.Peter's church on 19th December.

The church was decorated and illuminated beautifully and a large number of people took part in the festivities on 18th  evening, on the Vespers day.

The number of people was less comparatively on the Parish Feast day. Monsgr. Rev. Denis Moras, Vicar General of Mangalore was the main celebrant of the high mass along with many priests from the ward as the co celebrants. Roque and Eugine Quadros of Hanehalli were the Pirjenths of this year.

At the end of the mass, the office bearers of St.Peter's Association (Barkur) Mumbai, President Richard Carvalho along with Boney Sequeira, Rolph Montheiro and Jolvin Furtado were officially crowned as the  Pirjenths for the next year   by Rev.Fr. RCM Aranha.

Wonderful and  melodious choir conducted by Barkur's pride Eric Soans with his own composed hymns for vespers and feast were the highlight of the celebrations.

ICYM Barkur unit celebrated its 30th Anniversary on the evening of the Parish Feast Day. Richard Carvalho, President, St.Peter's Association (Barkur) Mumbai presided over the function. Eugine Qaudros and Micheal Furtado, Sasthan , President, ICYM Centarl Councilm Udupi were the chief guests.

Prizes were distributed to the winners of various competitions. Eugine Qaudros and Micheal Furtado did the honors. ICYM sponsors were felicitated.

Herald D' Souza and Noreen Lobo animators of ICYM , and Dr. Manoj D'Lima, President ICYM were present of the stage.

A cultural fiesta of dance, songs and jokes by the children and youth of various wards of Barkur aptly named Masala Mix was presented at the end was enjoyed and appreciated by all.


Kundapur: Regional Conference of Intl Lions District 324-d4 held - 12/21/2007

Kundapur, Dec 19: The Third Regional conference of international lions district 324-d4 was recently held here at Rotary Laxmi Narashiha Kalamandir.

The First Lioness of the Third province Veena Kotian inaugurated the conference. Ln Rajeev Kotian, president of the Third province presided over the conference. Ex-Governor Ln Prakash T Soans and the present governor Ln Dr B S Nagaprakash performed the service programme.

Suvarna Karnataka award winner Sheena Suvarna was felicitated on the occasion. Prof K P Putturaya, head of the department of Physiology of Bangalore MGM medical College spoke on the occasion. Dr Shubha Marvanthe, Kannada lecturer, Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara College participated in the programme as resource person. Hebbandy Basavarajappa, deputy governor of the lion’s district delivered the introductory speech.

K Ramanada, president of the conference committee and Netravathi welcomed the gathering. Jalaja Rajendra Tholar and Prakash Bettin compered programme. Niranjan M Salwadi proposed the vote of thanks. Ramananda Kamath, president of Kundapur Haasya Sangha presented humorous skits and programme during the evening programme and the conference came to end with the dance programme by the Step-on-Step group.


Kallianpur: Inter-Collegiate ‘Histo-Scope’ at Milagres College - 12/19/2007

daijiworldUdupi, Dec 19: An Inter Collegiate Cultural Fest was held at Milagres College, Kallianpur organised by Humanities Association of their College, from Tuesday, December 18 to Wednesday, December 19. The fest was inaugurated in an unique way through symbolically bursting crackers by U R Sabapathy, ex-MLA.
 
Prof Hilda Rodrigues, head of department of Economics and Commerce, was the chief guest of the occasion.
 
Walter Nandalike, editor-in-chief and of www.dajiworld.com, was the guest of honour.

Acclaiming the theme of art fest, ‘Histo-Scope’07’, in order to re-live the history of freedom struggle, U R Sabhapathy, called upon the youth to unite and excel in whatever they do. He also appealed them to preserve the cultural heritage of great India.





Walter Nandalike, in his address narrated his own success story behind floating www.daijiworld.com, by several years of hard work becoming computer-savvy with perseverance, persistence, drive for innovation and creativity. Today, www.daijiworld.com has become portal linking coastal Karnataka to the rest of the world.

Prof. Hilda Rodrigues, praising the effort of B.A students, in putting up ‘Art-Shine’07’ invited them to contemplate on the sacrifice and ideals of freedom fighters. She posed the question, whether we are truly proud to be Indians today? To the students.

’Art-Shine’07’ a cultural fest was held for two days with competitions, namely, 'pen and present', patriotic songs, dance, quiz, 'Histo-Museum' etc. Ten teams of Mangalore University participated in ‘Art-Shine’07’.





 

Dr. Vinay Rajath, convener of ‘Art Shine’07’ who by his motivation and sincere effort made this unique fest possible..

The programme was compered by Mansoor, student of III B.A.  The student leader, Adeesh Rao welcomed the gathering, Student leader, Vinutha proposed the vote of thanks


Barkur: Fun filled sports day held by ICYM Barkur - 12/16/2007

Barkur: Various sports competitions held in preparation with the 30th Annual Day of ICYM Barkur attracted many parishioners and turned out to be crowd puller.

The main attractions of Slow Bike Racing and Slow Bicycle Racing for men and boys and slow Scooty race for women saw a large number of participants taking part with enthusiasm.

But the top of the icing was the competition of weaving the coconut tree leaves, which was definitely a scene stealer .

Kundapur: Inter College Music Competion Dr. Bhandarkar Rolling Cup bagged by S.M.S College, Brahmavar. - 12/14/2007

Kundapur, Dec 14: The inter collegiate music competition was held in Bhandarkar’s college recently as a part the Founders Day Celebration.

 

Scoring the highest marks Brahmawar S.M.S College had bagged the rolling trophy named after the founder of the College Dr. A.S Bhandarkar nearly Nineteen Colleges affiliated to the Mangalore University took part in the competition. The number of student competitors were about 250.

 

Radha Karantha, Vasanthi Acharya, Sudha Markod, Ramananda Rao, Raveendra Aithal and Bhagirathy were the Juries of the competition.
