Kallinapur: Prathibha Puraskar by Kallianpur Varado Catholic Sabha - 12/10/2007

Kallinapur, Dec 2: Prathibha Puraskar by Kallianpur Varado Catholic Sabha was held on 2nd  at Milagres English Medium High School Kallianpur. Rev. Fr Marcel Saldanha the Vicar Forane was present and blessed the children. Dr Gerald Pinto the Editor of Amcho Sandesh was the chief guest and he felicitated the children.

 

Luke D’Souza presided over the function.  Thomas D Souza proposed vote of thanks.

 

Thomas Carnelio compered the programme.

Kallianpur: Kallianpur Varado Level Konkani and kannada Elocution Competition held - 12/10/2007

Kallianpur Dec 2: Kallianpur Varado Level Konkani and Kannada Elocution Competition was organised by Catholic Sabha Kallianpur Varado on 2th Dec.  at Milagres High School Kallianpur. Luke D Souza presided over the function.

The winners at Parish levels participated in Varado Level. .The competetion was held at primary, Higher primary, HighSchool, Youth and Adult Categories. Mount Rosary won the team championship. Vicar Var V .Rev .Fr. Marcel Saldanha gave the prizes.

Lidwin Pinto, Louis D Almeida, Ignatius Monis were present as judges.

Thomas D Souza proposed the vote of thanks and Thomas Carnelio compered the programme.


Kundapur: Veerappa Moily Inaugurates Devadiga Conference - 12/3/2007

Kundapur, Dec 4:  The members of Devadiga community of Kundapur taluk congregated in large numbers at Gandhi Maidan, here on Sunday December 2.

M Veerappa Moily, ex- chief minister of the state and chairman of the Central Administrative Reformation Commission inaugurated the Devadiga conference.

Inaugurating the said conference he said that India is known for its unity in diversity. It is the land of many communities living together with a strong tradition of tolerance and deep faith in democratic values.

It is therefore, imperative on the part of every community to uphold the principles of coexistence and to work for the holistic view of the development and progress, he added.

Dr BS Sherigar, vice-chancellor, Kuvempu University, Shimoga delivered the keynote address.

K Prathap Chandra Shetty, member, legislative council, Srinivas Shetty and Gopal Poojary, ex-MLAs were the chief guests present on the dais.

Dharmapal U Devadiga, Mumbai, Dinesh Devadiga, Mangalore, Nagaraj Padukone, Mumbai, Govinda Devadiga, Bangalore, Sridhar Devadiga, Udupi, Mohandas Devadiga, Mumbai, Tunga Devadiga and Shantha S Padukone were present on the occasion.

Suresh D Padukone, honorable president, Devadiga Welfare Association, Mumbai presided over the programme.

Karnataka Rajyotsava award winner neurologist Dr K V Devadiga and international award winner photographer Santhosh Kundeshwar were felicitated on this occasion.

H Raju Devadiga Trasi, president, Kundapur taluk Devadiga Sanga welcomed the gathering. Honna Devadiga gave the introductory speech. Shanker Ankadakatte, secretary read out the memorandum. Rajesh KC compered the programme. Raguram Devadiga Alooru proposed the vote of thanks.

Earlier massive community rally was held where more than ten thousand people took part in the rally.


Kundapur: “Piddvaz” laid to rest in the presence of huge number of his fans and relatives - 12/3/2007

Kundapur: P.D Vaz, well known Konkani writer laid to rest in the cemetery of Holy Rosary Church, Kundapur. Kundapur Varado Vicar Var Rev. Fr. Antony Lobo offered the funeral mass.

People in huge numbers witnessed the final journey of “Piddvaz”.

P D Vaz (75), more commonly known to Konkani readers by his pen-name 'Piddvaz' and through his popular column 'Patte Natlolim Roilam',  husband of Gracy Rita, and father of Rupert (+ Yvonne - Abu Dhabi), Praveen (+ Jessie - Mira Road, Mumbai),  Pramila (+ Keshav - Kedur), Pradeep (+ Shobha - Kundapur) and Sharmila (+ Conrad - Abu Dhabi), passed away on Thursday November 29, after a brief illness.

Vaz lived in ‘Asiana’ in the Carmel ward Kundapur, after having retired as development officer of the Life Insurance Corporation of India. He was a pioneer in running  humour columns in Konkani periodicals since the 1960's. His contribution in terms of humour to Konkani jounalism was enormous.

His popular column 'Patte Natlolim Roilam' (Trains without Tracks), run by him in Raknno, Poinnari and Divo, is still being talked about by readers. Later the series of his write-ups in this column was compiled and published in a book form. He also ran the 'Q&A' column in 'Mitr' while it was under the editorship of Jo Sa Alvares.

He has left behind a void in the Konkani literary world, which would be hard to fill, feel the readers.


Byndoor: Siddaramayya Addresses Congress Rally at Byndoor - 12/3/2007

Byndoor, Dec 2: Inaugurating the conference of Congress activists of Byndoor Block Congress committee, the ex-deputy chief minister, Siddaramaiah, said that the BJP - led JDS state coalition government has brought disgrace to the entire populace of state, due to politics of opportunism. It's the appropriate time for the public to show their might against rank opportunism who should be awakened by awareness on the political developments in the state capital.

He further urged them to arrange for similar rallies and conferences, across the Udupi district. Krishna Bhaire Gowda ex-MLA and the president of state Youth Congress committee, has launched the membership drive, as part of the program. The ex–MP, Vinay Kumar Sorake felicitated the newly elected Gram Panchayat (GP) presidents and vice presidents, on the same occasion. Gopal Poojary delivered the felicitation address. The programme was presided over by M.A Gafoor.  An impressive Youth rally was undertaken by the organizers.

 
The ex-MLA, Vasudev Yadiyal welcomed the gathering. Gopal Poojary delivered the introductory address. Ananth Movadi compered the programme.
