Kundapur: Patte Natlolim Roilam - fame Piddvaz no more. A big loss to Konkani literature. - 11/30/2007

D Vaz (75), more commonly known to Konkani readers by his pen-name 'Piddvaz' and through his popular column 'Patte Natlolim Roilam',  husband of Gracy Rita, and father of Rupert (+ Yvonne - Abu Dhabi), Praveen (+ Jessie - Mira Road, Mumbai),  Pramila (+ Keshav - Kedur), Pradeep (+ Shobha - Kundapur) and Sharmila (+ Conrad - Abu Dhabi), passed away on Thursday November 29, after a brief illness.

Funeral Mass in Holy Rosary Church, Kundapura on Saturday, December 1 at 10 am.

Vaz lived in ‘Asiana’ in the Carmel ward Kundapur, after having retired as development officer of the Life Insurance Corporation of India. He was a pioneer in running  humour columns in Konkani periodicals since the 1960's. His contribution in terms of humour to Konkani jounalism was enormous.

His popular column 'Patte Natlolim Roilam' (Trains without Tracks), run by him in Raknno, Poinnari and Divo, is still being talked about by readers. Later the series of his write-ups in this column was compiled and published in a book form. He also ran the 'Q&A' column in 'Mitr' while it was under the editorship of Jo Sa Alvares.

Karaval Milan, Dubai has recently honored this great personality during thier anual event "Wilfy Nite" at Brahmavar.

He has left behind a void in the Konkani literary world, which would be hard to fill, feel the readers.


Koteshwar: Grand finale to famous “Kodi Habba” the Car Festival of Kotilingeshwara Temple - 11/29/2007

Koteshwar: Kotilingeshwara Temple at Koteshwara- One of the seven ancient pilgrimage centers had recently witnessed a grand final to Kodi Festival-a highly popular Car Festival for the people of surrounding villages. Also villagers staying in other parts of the country & abroad also participate in this annual festival as they comes on vacation at that time.

 

On the occasion various rituals were performed under the direction of Chief Priest Kumara Aithal and the Dharmadhikaries Gopala Krishna Shetty, Dr. Sudhakara Nambiar, Moorthy Devadiga and Sobramanya, after performing the ordained rituals flagged off the giant cart to the rousing joyous cries-“Hara Hara Mahadev” of devotees who had already gathered at the Temple premises in Thousands.

 

Among the dignitaries who had participated in the closing ceremony were Haladi Srinivasa Shetty and K. Gopala Poojary the M.L.A ‘s of the Kundapur Taluk. The annual festival came to an end with the cultural program of varied kinds.


Kundapur: Our Lady of Rosary Church Celebrates Annual Feast - 11/29/2007

Kundapur, Nov 28: A grand procession of Believers of Christ was held with great devotion and religious fervor here on the eve of parish feast of Our Lady of the Rosary Church Tuesday November 27.

The entire church premises was being decorated with lights and thousands of believers took part at the procession as the procession.  At the end of the procession Vespers was celebrated with the liturgy of Word of God under the leadership of priest Fr Antony Lobo.

Wednesday will be a special occasion for all the parishioners of the Our Lady of Rosary church as it is the feast day for them.  The annual feast which is popularly known as ‘vhodlem fest’ was celebrated with great pomp on Wednesday.  Number of priests from Kundapur and other deaneries, thousands of devotees took part in the Eucharist Celebration. The church compound was filled with various shops, ice creams vans, fair and other items.  A cultural programme as part of the parish feast will be held on Wednesday evening.


Kundapur: Photographer Santosh wins International Award - 11/26/2007

Kundapur, Nov 27:  An international-level photographic competition was held under the auspices of Kalamarashi Keki Moos recently in Jalgoan in Maharastra in which renowned photographer of the town Santosh Kundeshwar bagged first place in the black and white category. 

More than four hundred competitors participated in the event and among them Santosh Kundeshwar stood first in the black and white photography and third in the facial photography.

Santosh Kundeshwar has made the state proud, as he is the only contestant to win the prize among the several competitors.

Santosh Kundeshwar has earlier won several other prizes like certificates of merit from Butterfly foundation of Kerala, from photographic society of India of Mumbai in wildlife photography, from Sagar photo society three times, first and third in Gulf Oil Mumbai track rally photography and the prize by the Shimoga forest department.

Santosh Kundeshwar had the privilege of representing the state in the prestigious photographic camp held in Bandogar, Madhya Pradesh under the auspices of conservation of Tigers at national-level.


Dubai: “Picnic – 2007” a fun filled day long outing by members of Karaval Milan, Dubai. - 11/24/2007

Dubai, Nov 23: Members of Karaval Milan, Dubai an association of the Parishioners of  Kallianpur & Kundapur Varado residing in UAE has gone out for  a day long picnic to Khorfakhan Beach & Kalba on Friday 23rd Nov 2007. It was a doctor ordered medicine to all the participants to come out of their daily stress of work for a day and reaunavate them self.

 

The picnic was took off  at 7.30 morning with a prayer by James Pius. On the way to Kalba/Khorfakhan all the participants kept them selves busy with various entertainments like singing songs, mimicry, clapping etc

 

Varieties of fun filled games were conducted by Wilson D’sa in his unique style & approach. As a result he succeeded in keeping all the participants busy & cheerful thought out the day.

The main attraction of the day was the game “Kabbaddi” between the participants which was witnessed & applauded by huge number of visitors of various nationalities.

 

Authentic Mangalorean food along with B.B.Q was served during the picnic.

 

Prizes for the winners in various games were distributed at the end. President Rony Nazareth, Byndoor proposed the vote of thanks.

 

It was evening 8 o’clock when the entire participant crowd bid adieu to Khorfakhan.
