Kuwait: KVWA organised "Wilson Olivera Concert" entertained the konkani music lovers of Kuwait - 11/16/2007
daijiworldKuwait, Nov 16: Kuwait Varado Welfare Association (KVWA) represented by the ever cheerful and charismatic leader Nancy Menezes celebrated the 6th anniversary with “Children’s Day” and Wilson Olivera Konkani Musical concert on 16 November at the Kuwait Sea Sports, Raas Salmiya.





The program commenced with introduction of MC of the day Ronald Olivera. The program was formally inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp which is symbolic by the Executive committee members Rainer Crasta, Naveen Mendonca, Nelson Mendonca, Mergin Dias along with the President Nancy Menezes. This was soon followed by the introduction of the visiting artist singer Zeena Pereira and Wilson Olivera by the compere. Zeena and Wilson Olivera welcomed the gathering with a welcome song. Local artistes Jason D`souza, Glaydis Lorena and Juliano D`mello also joined Wilson Olivera and Zeena to entertain the audience during the program.
Lots of spot prizes were given out during the short breaks. There after the audience were immersed with the items songs of Wilson and Zeena. The Chief guest of the program Fr. Melwyn and the First Secretary of the Indian Embassy Alok Kumar were escorted to the stage and were honored with Bouquets by the President. The main sponsor of the program John Fernandes, Archie Menezes were honored on this occasion with bouquets and momentos.





The students of Kundapur Varado who have excelled in the 10th std Joslita D`souza, Joswita D`souza, Rolette Quadros & Crystle Martis and 12th standard Rohan Pereira were honored with Momentos. The co-sponsers of the program were honored with Flowers by the President Nancy and Vica President Donald Mendonca. Walter Nandalike the Editor-in-chief of Daijiworld.com was honored for getting the people worldwide united through his website and also his contribution to the Konkani language. As he was not able to attend the program Wilson Saldanha of Daijiworld.com Kuwait received the memento on his behalf.
Wilson Saldanha Shirthady and Jossy Pinto Nantoor were also honored by Fr. Melwyn for their hard work through media and for supporting KVWA during their activities. Olivera Flavia well known as Carol Martis was honored with Manpatr for her achievements to promote Konkani language through her anthology of short poems. The visiting artist Zeena was honoured with momento and Wilson Olivera was honored with momento, manpatr and title “Konkan Manik”. Also Ronald Olivera who had flown all the way from Dubai to compere the program was honored with Momento and Manpatr.





Little Star of KVWA 2007 was organized where the kids in the age group of 5-8 were given 30 second time to show their talent. Vaneesa and Alister Gomes won the Princess and Prince Title which was judged by Nora, Fatma and Anita. Grace before meals was led by Wilson. Delicious food was served with a wide variety of dishes while the DJ Arayans entertained the audience with hits numbers which kept most of the people on the floor dancing.
Afternoon session had raffle draws, entry coupon draw, membership draw, child sponsorship draw with a vote of thanks song by Wilson and Zeena. The well arranged and well entertaining program came to an end at 5.15 pm. Sound, lighting, Event Management and illuminations were provided by the well known personality Anand D`souza. Music was rendered by the well known A. R. Rahman of Konkani music Adrian Gomes along with his team Satish, Manoj and Arnold.




The proceeds of the program were dedicated to the needy children’s education back home. Huge crowd, well arrangements and support from public clearly indicates that KVWA is one of the fastest growing Indian Association in Kuwait.

Kallianpur: NSS Camp for Republic Day selection inaugurated in Milagres College, Kallianpur. - 11/12/2007
Dr. Gerald Pinto for KMKallianpur, Nov 12: The Pre Republic Day selection camp of NSS was inaugurated by The Minister for Labour Government of India Oscar Fernandes in Milagres College Kallianpur today on 12th Nov 2007.
He called upon N S S volunteers to live for others because a life lived for others alone are meaningful. He entertained the audience by playing a national song in mouthorgan. Prof. Kaveriappa the Vice Chancellor of Mangalore University Presided over the function. Correspondent Rev. Fr Marcel Saldanha in his speech asked everyone to encourage each other for the National integration.
In the beginning Principal Fr Fred Mascarenhas welcomed the gathering. Dr H S Suresh Camp Director introduced the objectives of the camp. Prof. Gopal the Mangalore University Co Coordinator proposed the vote of thanks. Prof. Joseph Peter Fenandes compared the programme. Prof. Jayaram Shettigar will be the convener of this ten days camp.
200 hundreds students from the South Indian states including Andaman and Nicober Islands and Laksha Deep are attending the camp out of which 40 will be selected for the National RRD Camp of Jan 26, 2008.

KVWAKuwait, Nov 12: The star performers for the KVWA organized Wilson Olivera Nite, Wilson Olivera & Zeena are arrived in Kuwait on Sunday.
KVWA President Nancy Menezes and committee members welcomed them at the Kuwait International Airport.
Kundapur Varado Welfare Association, Kuwait, is celebrating Children’s Day and Wilson Olivera Concert on Friday November16th, 2007 at Kuwait Sea Sports Club, Raas Salmiya.
The Editor in Chief of www.daijiworld.com Walter Nandalike is also expected soon to attend the event.

Dubai: Kemmannu Flowers, Picnic Party held at Safa Park Dubai - 11/10/2007
MangaloreanDubai Nov 10, 2007: The long awaited out-door picnic party of 'Kemmannu Flowers' in U.A.E at Safa Park-Dubai on 9th November 2007, was indeed a great success. The event began at 12:30pm with President Mr. Ronald D'Souza welcoming the members and guests, followed by several games for adults and kids.




The games for the adults were conducted by Mrs. Suzi Fernandes and games for kids were conducted by Mrs. Clarice D'Souza while Mr. Ronald D'Souza, Mr.George Lewis, Mr.Donald Saldanha, Mrs. Suzi Fernandes and Mrs. Clarice D'Souza judged the sequence of games and other events that were held throughout the day. Various games conducted for kids included drinking the coke and lemon in spoon. All children who participated in the games with lot of enthusiasm and sportsmanship, were given prizes.





The games conducted for adults were very exciting. The entire crowd was divided into Six groups comprising of 13 members in each group. Several games were introduced to the groups like, passing the ball, sack race, three legged race, lemon in spoon race, breaking the pot, counting bananas, guessing weight, men dressed in woman’s dress and the most thrilling of all, the tug of war. Points were given according to the group's achievement in the respective games. Two groups that scored the highest were declared winners and runners up respectively.
The entire day's events were filled with enthusiasm, laughter, smiles and lot of sportsman spirit in everyone throughout the day. Mouth watering Mangalorean food was served by Canara restaurant.
Respected guest from Kemmannu Mr. Felix Pinto was also present and enjoyed the entire event. The outdoor picnic party came to an end at around 6.30pm which was attended by around 120 Kemmanites and their friends.

Mumbai: Francis Fernandes, Cassia's 'Mhataro Chorbela' -staged to mark the anual event of "St. Peter's Association Barkur" Mumbai - 11/9/2007
daijiworldMumbai, Nov 9: Various cultural events were held to mark the decennial celebrations of St Peter’s Association Barkur, at Baidas auditorium, situated at Ville Parle on Friday November 9 morning. Popular Konkani dramatist, Francis Fernandes Cascia, was felicitated on the occasion.
Francis Fernandes Cascia, while acknowledging the honour said that no one should commit the stupidity of forgetting his own mother, mother tongue, native place. They are significant part of one’s life. It is known all over the world that, no sooner if one becomes internationally-popular, the question of who is his mother, which is his mother tongue, which part of the country he hails from crop up. It is one's utmost duty to preserve his culture. Hence, the contribution of artistes play significant role in nurturing the traditional practices and contemporary art.
Lawrence D’Souza, managing director, Blue Star Elevators Pvt Ltd, in his presidential address said that the apprehension of modern gimmicks disfigure the dramas in particular, are not justified. However, it has contributed for the liveliness of amateur plays. This has been proved by the drama troupe of Francis Fernandes Cascia. Therefore, art enthusiasts should strive to enliven the drama with innovative experiments.












Walter Nandalike, managing director and editor-in-chief, Daijiworld Media Pvt Ltd, Henry D’Silva Suratkal, president, Canarites Youth Associations Mumbai, Rony Goveas, proprietor, Spray Links, Vinayak Indulkar, Rohan Roche, Daisy Serrao, Marceline Carvalho were the chief guests, present at the occasion.
