Barkur: Copper plates dating back Vijayanagara Emperor found in Barkur. - 11/8/2007
Vinaya Pais, Kundapur for KMBarkur: Two copper plates belonging to the period of Vijayanagara Emperor have recently been unearthed in Manigara Keri of Barkuru near the Temple of Sri Somanatha Shwara.
They were found when the old house belonging to the couples Manjunatha Bhat and B.K Sushila Bhat was being renovated. The famous archaeological research scholar Dr. Keladi Venkatesh Joish estimated the period of these plates as 1387 AD and 1473 AD. The old couples that had chanced to find them in the cracks of the old walls of their dilapidated residence have handed them over to the archaeological department for preservation and for further research.

Barkur: ‘Tuvvi Tuvvi – ‘07’ entertained the children - 11/6/2007
daijiworldUdupi, Nov 5: The ‘Expressions’ group organized ‘Tuvi Tuvi - 2007,’ a little children’s programme at Barkoor parish hall near here on Sunday, November 4.
Fr Remigious Aranha, parish priest of Barkoor inaugurated the programme and graced the occasion. Herald D’Souza, vice-president of Barkoor parish council was the chief guest n the occasion. Well known Konkani writer Dr Gerald Pinto Niddody presided over the function. Kishoo Barkoor, the convener of Expressions’ and president Denis Rodrigues accompanied the guests to the dais.






Gretta Rebello, newly elected councilor of Saligrama town municipality was felicitated by Fr Remigious Aranha.
Zita Gonsalves proposed the vote of thanks. Alwyn Andrade compered the stage programme.







Later the ‘Tuvvi Tuvvi 2007’ was presented by Prajal Taran team led by Ashith Pinto. Chrismita D’Costa, Disha Pasanna, Remo, Arthur Lobo and others exhibited their talents on this occasion.

Kundapur: Gurukula Art Impact-2007, National Level Drawing Camp held at Vakwadi - 11/6/2007
Vinaya Pais, Kundapur for KMKundapur, Nov 6: Gurukula Art Impact-2007, the national-level drawing camp, was held in Gurukula Public School at Vakwadi near here recently.
V V Here Gowda, the senior artist of national repute, gave impetus to the camp by drawing a picture. He wished the proposed art gallery to be opened under the auspices of Gurukula Public School every success.
B Appanna Hegde the ex-MLA and the founder president of the School inaugurated the camp.
The correspondents of the School Bandya Subaschndra Shetty and Anupama S Shetty, the principal Prof Ranabir Handa of the public school were present on the occasion.
Peter Lewis, ex-president, Karnataka Lalitha Kala Academy presided over the valedictory function. The chief guest Dr M Mohan Alva of Alva’s foundation, Moodabidri felicitated the senior artists V V Here Gowda, M S Moorthy, C S Krishna Moorthy Theethalli and Pramod Kumar Gaikwad of Madhya Pardesh.
B Appanna Hegde, the founder president, Bandya Subhas Shetty, the correspondent and Prof Ranbir, the principal were present on the podium.
Anupama S Shetty, the other correspondent of the school welcomed the gathering. Prof Rekha Bannadi delivered the introductory speech. Rajesh K C compered the programme. US Shenoy introduced the chief guests.

Kundapur: "Internet World-2007" inaugurated in Kundapur - 11/5/2007
Vinaya Pais, Kundapur for KMKundapur, Nov 5: “The World Wide Web(www) called internet is the most wonderful contribution of information technology,” said Prof S Narayana Rao, principal, Bhandarkar’s College.
He was speaking after inaugurating the Internet World-2007, a three-day camp organized for the benefit of the students.
He further said that today’s illiterate person was not of an old kind but a new creature who badly lacked the rudimentary knowledge of operating the internet machine called computer.
The only difference he said, was that the old illiterate was exploited by his literate brother where as the new literate should know how to make the world wide machines a benevolent master and not a malevolent monster.
Our students should know the good and bad effects of the Internet machine which no doubt offers the operator or its master the whole world in a silver platter so to say, he added.
The principal was addressing with the demonstration of slides and pictures to a gathering of more than two thousand students of pre-university colleges of the town and Byndoor regions under the education department of Udupi District.
Prabhakar Mittyantha, regional resource officer presided over the function. The chief of the computer department of the College K Ganesh advised the students to make the best use of the well-equipped computer laboratory of the college. Nagesh Rao, the official coordinator of Kundapur regional resource center welcomed the gathering. The physical director Dinakar Hegde proposed the vote of thanks.
The students in a series of batches visited the InternetWorld-2007 after the inaugural function was over.

Uppunda: Raju Poojary Felicitated by Citizens' Forum & Spoorthi Rural Association - 11/3/2007
Vinaya Pais, Kundapur for KMUppunda, Nov 3: S Raju Poojary, president, Udupi district panchayat was felicitated under the joint auspices of Byndoor/Kundapur citizen’s forum and Spoorthi Rural Association in the Sridhar Memorial Hall of Uppunda Model Higher Elementary School here recently.
Speaking on the occasion B Appanna Hegde, senior political and religious leader of the district said that the public service was not like political service. Patience, perseverance and the detatached outlook are its sheet anchor.
No politics should come in the way of public service and a true public servant or social worker will always prefer to remain away from public glare or publicity.
Uppunda Chandra Shekar Holla, president, Udupi district Kannada Sahitya Parishad delivering the welcome address said that power and position were not permanent and people’s love and affection and the trust they repose in us will give us the utmost reward of satisfaction and contentment. Public service is thus an opportunity for improving and enriching the emotional contents of one’s personality, he added.
Presiding over the function the MLA Gopal Poojary said to the audience that the presidential position of district panchayat under the existing situation was considerably powerful and influential to frame and implement projects at district level.
Rajarama Bhat, U Gopala Shetty, Shrinivasa, Mahesha and Manju Devadiga spoke on the occasion.
DTS Mallya of citizen’s forum read out the address felicitating the honored chief guest. The member Madana Kumar of district panchayat and Manjunath Kharvi president of village panchayat were present on the occasion.
Sunil Kumar Holla of Spoorthi Association welcomed the gathering. Narayana proposed the vote of thanks and VH Nayak compered the programme.
