Shankarnarayana: Rally for Peace and Communal Amity Organized - 10/7/2007
Vinaya Pais, Kundapur for KMKundapur, Oct 7: A huge rally was taken out on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti to highlight unity and communal amity in Shankernarayana.
It was jointly organized by Kannada Association “Anubhava Mantapa” of Government First Grade College, its NSS wing and gram panchayat of Shankernarayana.
Shankernarayana police station sub inspector Suresh Kumar flagged off the rally which moved from the College and ended up in the gram panchayat premises with messages of unity and songs of patriotism.
A public meeting was held in the G S Achar Rangamandir. Rationalist and thinker Adamar Shripati Achar addressed the audience.
Shankernarayana College principal Prof M R Somayaji presided over the function. Lecturer Jayaprakash welcomed the gathering. Student Suchitra Shetty compered the programme. Another student, R Vidya, gave the vote of thanks.
The programme ended with a variety of entertainment.

Kundapur: Gandhi Jayanthi Celebrated in Bandarker's College, Kundapur - 10/4/2007
Vinaya Pais, Kundapur for KMKundapur, Oct 2: Presiding over the Gandhi Acanthi celebration held in the Bhandarkhar’s College, Kundapur, A.G Kedge President of the Finance Commission said that Gandhiji was aligned in that he shook the British imperial foundation in India and was the foremost front leader among those who made the supreme sacrifice not only in the fight for Indian freedom but also for the communal amity and understanding.
In post Independent India it was there fore our bounden duty to follow him and be his worthy inheritors of truth and non-violence. Shri Tarsi Parameshwar Hebbar freedom fighter was honored on the occasion. He recalled his experience of those days of freedom fighting and thanked the organizers for the honor done to him. At the end the winners in the competition at Taluka level for drawing Gandhiji’s picture were given prizes.

The function was presided over the Parish Priest. Fr. Francies Cornelio. Dr. Chikk Marry Medical Officer and Nagesh Sherigar Medical Assistant were present on the occasion as resource person.

Vinaya Pais, Kundapur for KMKundapur: First time in the 34 years history of Kundapura Town Municipality the B.J.P has won the absolute majority of 15 seats out of 23 and a pall of silence has descended on the local Congress party with an unbroken regime of three-decade long history to find its lost moorings in the local politics. Lack of preparatory work, over confidence, confusion in the selection of candidates, internal strife and the lack of rapport between the active party workers and the local voters were among the several reasons for its inglorious defeat in the local elections.

Udupi: Scholar-linguist Handadi Ramakrishna Bhat (93) Passes away - 10/3/2007

Udupi, Oct 4: Tri-lingual scholar Handadi Ramakrishna Bhat (93) passed away at his residence at Handadi near here on Tuesday.
Bhat, who had mastered Kannada, Hindi and Sanskrit had served in Milagres High School, Kallianpur for 25 years. He had the credit of having imparted basic Sanskrit lessons to Shri Sugunendratirtha Shripada of Puttige Math, during the latter's student days.
A man of strict discipline and devotion, Bhat was given the honour of being the 'Asthana Vidwamsa' during all three 'Paryaya' events of Puttige Math held so far. A recipient of 'Upendra Vithala' award, he had also been honoured by several organizations like Brahmin Mahasabha.
He is survived by four sons and three daughters.
