Dubai, June 26: Karaval Milan, an Association of Kallianpur - Kundapur Varado Parishioners residing in UAE condemn the attack on Fr. Sylvester Pereira and others by local Hindu leaders.
They request the District Incharge Minister V.S Acharaya, Local MP Manorama Madwaraj, MP Oscar Fernandes, MLC Winnifred Fernandes & all other MLA 's of Udupi Dist. to act immedieatly and take immediat action on the culprits without any delay.
Also send their prayer for the early recovery of Fr. Sylvester & other vicitms. And declared their full support for the today rally.

Kundapur: Protest Rally on Jun 27 to protest the attack on Fr. Silvester & 4 other people - 6/26/2007
daijiworldMangalore, Jun 26: A rally protesting the attack on Fr Sylvester Pereira has been organized at Kundapur on Wednesday June 27. The rally has been organized by like-minded organizations from Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts.
The police have arrested four activists of local Hindu organizations who said to have assaulted Fr Sylvester Pereira, priest of Katkere Carmel Ashram here on Monday June 25. The arrested have already been produced in the court.
The arrested have been identified as Ankadakatte Ramanna Shetty, Raja Ankadakatte, Prakash Vithalawady, Sudhakar. However, it has been observed that 3 more men, Girish, Venkatesh and Subrahmanya who were directly involved in the attack have not yet been arrested. Hence it has been reported that an all-religion protest would be staged on Sunday July 1. Sources claimed that there has been political pressure on police not to arrest the prime accused. Some local leaders are siding with the accused and are trying to shield them, said a local while condemning the attack on Fr Sylvester, two religious brothers, and a layman.
Mean while, it has been decided to take appropriate legal action in this regard. At the same time Catholic youth have been advised to restrain from violence and maintain peace.
Widespread condemnation: Catholic Sabha, Block Congress, JD (S), Taluk Souhardha Vedike, SFI, DYFI, CPI (M), and other organizations have condemned the assault on Fr Sylvester, Br Joyson, Valerian D’Silva (66), Br John Pradeep and kitchen help, Mukund Bhandary. The political leaders of various parties have urged the police to maintain law and order in Kundapur. Byndoor MLA, Gopal Bhandary visited the priest and his fellowmen at the hospital.

Mangalore: Yuva Awaz Condemns Attack on Priest in Kundapur - 6/26/2007
daijiworldMangalore, June 25: Konkani Yuva Awaz, a youth organization from the city, has condemned the attack made on a priest at Kundapur on Monday June 25.
The organization has called upon all secular forces of the district to raise their voice against communal elements. At the same time, it has felt that some Sangh Parivar leaders have been the biggest threat to the peace and harmony among religions in the coastal area of Karnataka.
The police should take strict action against the criminals who attacked the priest, and the government should ban such communal organizations in the country, the organization urged in a press statement.

Uudpi: Houses damaged in rain raise to 112 in Udupi district - 6/25/2007
UdayavaniUdupi, June 25: As many as 112 houses have been partially damaged by rain in the district on sunday.
According to the taluk office 106 houses were partially damaged in parts of Udupi taluk, costing Rs 6.46 lakh. The Kundapur Taluk Office sources said the house of Subakka at Katbelthur village. Two area partially damaged in Ulthur village. Two area plantations belonging to Manjunath Naik and Govinda Naik at Kolinje village were damaged.
According to the Karkala Taluk Office, the house of Gulabi Shedti at Nadpal village, houses of Narasihma Naik and Luchu Sabalagi in Kukkundoor and Palli villages were darnaged. According to the Deputy Commissioner’ Office, Udupi district received a rainfall of 75.3 mm in last 24 hours ending at 8 am on Sunday. The rainfall received in Udupi taluk was 65.4 mm, in Kundapur taluk 73 mm and in Karkala taluk 87.6 mm, the sources said.

Udupi: Thermal project: concession slammed - 6/25/2007
The HinduUdupi: Former minister Vasanth V. Salian has criticised the State Government for giving “special concessions” to the 1015 MW coal-based Nagarjuna Thermal Power Project to be set up at Yellur in Udupi district.
In a press release issued on Monday here Mr. Salian stated that the people of Udupi district were against the project.
The Government had failed to solve the problems of agricultural labourers and the small and cottage industries while offering special concessions to the Nagarjuna Power Corporation Limited. This was an anti-people measure, the release said.

The HinduUdupi: Puttige Math will conduct “Kattige Muhurta”, third of the preliminary rituals before the next Paryaya, here on June 28. A press release issued by the math here on Monday stated that a procession as part of the event would begin from the math at 6.45 a.m. “Kattige Muhurta” would be held at the math at 7.30 a.m. Sri Sugunendra Tirtha Swamiji of Puttige Math would deliver a discourse at 8.15 a.m., the press release said. The hinduUdupi: As many as 112 houses have been partially damaged by rain in the district on Sunday.
According to the taluk office, 106 houses were partially damaged in parts of Udupi taluk, costing Rs. 6.46 lakh. Udupi: Bureaucrats must change mindset, says Minister - 6/24/2007
UdayavaniUdupi, June 24: Bureaucrats in the administrative service must change their mindset, said district incharge Minister Dr V S Acharya.
He was speaking at the inaugration of the Prithwi Institute of Management Education (PRIME), a training centre for IAS and KAS aspirants, here on Saturday.
He called upon the aspirants not to wait till the present bureaucrats change their mindset, but to change the system after joining the government service. He urged the promoters of the PRIME to include soft skill, strategic decision making skills in the syllabus. Sode Mutt pontiff Sri Vishwothama Theertha Swamiji inaugrated the Institute.
Former High Commissioner of India to Pakistan, K Dayananda Avadhani, U V Bhat, ISRO scientist E Janardhan, Srinivas Acharya and others spoke on the occasion.

Udupi: Literature binds Professional talent: Sandhya Pai - 6/24/2007
UdayavaniUdupi, June 24: ‘Taranga’ magazine’s Managing Editor, S Sandhya Pai said that, if a person starts writing about the various experiences of life its hard to stop it.
She was speaking on the occasion of the release of the book “Ayaskantavar” written by Literateur, Kantavar Kannada Association’s President, Dr N Mogasale on June 24th at Hotel Kediyoor, Udupi. She said that to make dreams come true one should work hard, we may not desire to work hard due to our mind, but it happens only through dedication. She said that DR Mogasale was one of those dedicated people and he writes everything about his deepest feelings.
Senior literateur, Vyasaray Ninjoor was the Chief guest on this occasion. The programme was inaugurated by Felicitation committee’s secretary, Harikrishna Punaruru. Literateur D K Chowt, Kannada Sahitya Parishad’s District President, Uppunda Chandrashekar Holla wished everyone.
