Gangolli: Fisherman Drowns near Gangolli Estuary - 3/23/2007
DWGangolli, Mar 23: A fisherman met watery grave after falling into sea near Gangolli estuary here on Friday March 23 afternoon.
The deceased fisherman has been identified as Sanjeev Kharvi (48), a resident of Kharvikeri near Gangolli here. He had gone fishing into the sea along with fellow fisherman on Friday. While fishing, he suddenly slipped and fell into the sea.
Though those who were in the boat tried to rescue them, they did not succeed. He was pulled into the deep waters by the raging waves. His body however, was later fished out from the sea.
The Gangolli police have registered a case in this regard.

Kedur: Running Train Knocks Woman to Death - 3/23/2007
DWKundapur, Mar 24: A housewife from Kedur Badabettu was knocked down to death by a running train at Kedur Badabettu here on Friday March 23.
The deceased has been identified as Bhagirathi (40), wife of Madhav Shetty. So far it is not known as which of the trains knocked her down. But it is presumed that she might have been run-over by a passenger train which passes in the morning. It is said that she was crossing the railway lines when she was hit by train.
Her husband Mahdav Shetty is a teacher in Belve school. The couple also has two daughters. The police have registered a case in this regard.

Kemmannu: Voveo-Vers Workshop, ‘Mhan Monis Ek Mulakhat’ on Mar 25 - 3/22/2007
daijiworldKemmannu, Mar 22: Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy in association with Catholic Sabha units of Kemman and Kallianpur deanery, district Konkni Sanghatan and Stree Sanghatan of Kallianpur deanery has organized 'Voveo-Vers Workshop' at Kemman on Sunday March 25.
The workshop will be held in the "Little Flower Church" Hall at Kemman and will be inaugurated by Fr Henry Fernandes, parish priest of Kemman church. Karnataka Konkani Sahitya president Eric Ozario is the director of the workshop. Hilda D'Souza, Irene Rebello and Ravi Stephen will be the resource persons for the day-long workshop.
After the workshop 'Konkni Mhan Monis Ek Mulakhat' programme to felicitate Konkani stalwarts will be held. Senior Konkani writer Donat D'Almeida Thottam and well-known folklore artiste Lenny Saldanha will be honoured as 'mhan monis' on the occasion.
Catholic Sabha Kallianpur deanery president Thomas Cornelio will be the chief guest while Dr Iqbal, associate professor, P A College of Engineering will be the guest of honour. Konkani Academy president Eric Ozario will preside over the function.

Manipal: Entrepreneurship Development Programme - 3/21/2007

| Manipal, March 21: Bharatiya Vikas Trust (BVT) in Manipal and Oriental Bank of Commerce, one of the premier banks among nationalized banks in India have entered into an agreement on a scheme related to solar power.
A Memory of Understanding (MoU) in this regard was signed between the bank Chairman K N Prithviraj and BVT Managing Trustee K M Udupa at the bank’s Head Office in New Delhi.
Alan Periera, the bank Executive Director and Dr C K Ambushtha, the advisor of BVT were present.
Under this Understanding, the Bharatiya Vikas Trust has agreed to provide solar power to 10 selected villages at a cost of Rs 10 lakh, 50 demonstrations related to solar power, informative camps to 100 bank employees on providing loan facilities to solar connections and technical information to 30 volunteers. |

Udupi: 15 districts to have nature cure clinics - 3/21/2007
The HinduUdupi: Medical Education Minister V.S. Acharya said on Wednesday that yoga and nature cure clinics would be set up in 15 districts in the State in the fiscal year 2007-08.
He was speaking at inauguration the SDM Yoga and Nature Cure Hospital, here.
Dr. Acharya said that the Union Government had released Rs. 1.5 crore for setting up these clinics. The State Government would provide manpower, equipment and premises, he said, adding that Rs. 10 lakh each had been allocated for setting up 15 clinics.
The SDM institutions should start postgraduate courses in naturopathy and yogic sciences. Dharmadhikari of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala D. Veerendra Heggade would be conferred an honorary doctorate by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences on March 24, Dr, Acharya said.
Raghupati Bhat, MLA, said that "Arogya mela" would be held in Udupi in April with the help of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP). Since the Government had decided to ban arrack in the State, the SKDRDP should cooperate by holding more de-addiction camps, he said.
Sri Sugunendra Tirtha Swamiji of Puttige Math said that not only the physical but also the mental health of people was important. Globalisation had increased competition among people to for get more materialistic comforts. Unhealthy lifestyle led by people was responsible for major health problems, he said.
Dr. Heggade said that he was planning to start a college of yoga and naturopathy in Udupi. Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala was ready to start postgraduate courses in yoga and nature cure if the Government gave permission for it, he said. The Government should allocate funds for research in Ayurveda, yoga and nature cure, he added.
Sitaram Tolpadithaya welcomed the gathering. Managing Editor of the Kannada weekly "Taranga" Sandhya Pai, secretary of SDM Society Harshendra Kumar were present.

Udupipolice Kota : 19 March :A boy named Kumar Abdul Lathief aged about 15 Yrs, studying in Kota High School, Kota, Udupi left his house and did not return back to home. In this connection a missing case has been registered in Kota PS Cr. No. 46/07 U/s Boy missing on the complaint of his father Mohidin, Ulthoor village, Kota and the case is under investigation.
