Udupi: ISKCON rath yatra tomorrow - 3/20/2007
The HinduUdupi: The Udupi chapter of International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) will take out Jaganath Rath Yatra here on Thursday.
Director of the world community development wing of ISKCON Teijays Dasa told presspersons here on Tuesday that the yatra would follow the style of Puri Jaganath Rath Yatra. The yatra will begin from Gita Mandir at 3 p.m. and pass through Kalsanka Junction, City Bus Stand, K.M. Marg, Diana Circle, Taluk Office, and culminate at Rajangana at 6.30 p.m. Thursday. This will be followed by cultural and spiritual shows. Jayapataka Swami of ISKCON will attend.

Kundapur: Student of Beary's D'ed College won the 1st prize in youth festival - 3/20/2007
Vinaya Pais, Kundapur for KMKundapur, March 19:: As part of their program the National Social Service units on behalf of the Udupi Dist. had recently held cultural and games, sports competition at divisional level in celeberasion with the youth festival of coorg.
The students of Beary’s D.ED College had won the first prize both in folk songs chorus group and in throw ball. Incidentally the students of Beary’s D.ED. college were selected for participation at state level.
The president of the Beary’s group of educational institutes Haji Janab Mohammed and the director of the administrative council and the principal of the college Dr. B.H. Prabhakara Shetty were pleased to congratulate the students participants.

Manipal: Namma Angadi from March 23 - 3/20/2007
UdayavaniManipal, March 19: The students of the Manipal Institute of Communication (MIC) are organising Namma Angadi, an exhibition-cum-sale of handicrafts, from March 23 to 25 between 10 am to 7.30 pm, at the Nehru Memorial Hall in Manipal.
Owing to the success of the sale and demand for the products over the past three years, sale of handicrafts at Namma Angadi has been extended for three days.
The products on sale include hand-made cotton kurtas, dress materials, bags, ethnic terracotta jewellery and handicraft items.
The organisers said, the Dean of College of Nursing of the Manipal University, Dr Ratna Prakash would inaugurate the sale on March 23.
Chairman of Prasar Bharthi and Honourary Director of MIC, Dr M V Kamath will preside over.

Udupi: Youth urged to opt for self-employment - 3/20/2007
The HinduUDUPI: K. Raghupati Bhat, MLA, said on Monday that the Karnataka Development Front (KDF) Government was committed to the development of village and cottage industries. He was speaking after inaugurating the opening of the Khadi Gramodyog Bhavan here.
Mr. Bhat said providing youth with opportunities for self-employment was better than handing out unemployment doles to them. The "Suvarna Karnataka Kayaka Yojane" aimed at providing training to youth for six months, during which time they would be given a stipend of Rs. 1,500, he said, and added that these youth would later be provided employment in the field in which they had received training.
The programme, he said, would help reduce unemployment. He regretted, however, that it had not received an enthusiastic response in Udupi, and added that efforts had to be made to promote the programme in the district.
Vice-president of the Udupi Zilla Khadi Mathu Gramodyoga Okoota Narasimha Nayak, priest of the Mother of Sorrows Church Mathew Vaaz, Joint Director of District Industries Centre G. Narayanaraju, and Udupi District Khadi and Village Industries Officer Manjunath Kalkeri were present at the function.
The bhavan is situated at Vidya Jyoti Complex on Lal Bahadur Shastri Road. A 35 per cent discount is being offered on the sale of khadi clothes till March 31.

Manipal: Three day Indo Australian conference inaugurated - 3/18/2007
UdayavaniManipal , March 18: Nobel laureate, professor Peter Doherty from University of Melbourne, Australia, has said that influenza vaccines were generally effective provided they target the right flu virus.
The problem was that the virus changes, and "we get new pandemics every two years or so", he said.
Influenza vaccines were generally made by growing the virus in embryonated hen's eggs, killing it with formation than cleaning the product up in different ways, he said in his presentation on "virus killer and killer t-cells" at a three-day international conference on human variation and pharmacogenomics here on Saturday.
Stella Morahan, Director Science Cooperation, Australian High Commission, New Delhi, said that bilateral ties between India and Australia had increased and grown at the rate of 43 per cent in 2006.

Udupi, March 17: Tonse Mohandas Seetharam Pai, a senior social activist and a resident of Udupi Sodhe Mutt road died on March 13 due to the injuries he sustained in an accident. He was 79. He is survived by three sons.
He suffered serious injuries in a bike accident that happened while he was returning from Town Municipal office on Tuesday. He was rushed to a Manipal hospital.
Pai was involved in ornaments, honey and provision stores business in various stages of his life. He was also an activist of RSS and Jan Sangh. He served in the Kannur Jail when a ban was put on RSS in the wake of murder of Mahatma Gandhi. Pai also served in the jail during the emergency period.

| Manipal, March 17: Udupi District Regional Transport Officer Omkaareshwari M P on Saturday released the “Taranga Ugadi -2007” special issue at a function held at the Udayavani head office here.
Speaking after inaugurating the issue, Omkaareshwari said “Taranga” weekly is a magazine with aesthetic standards. The book has enough literary material to create interest in art and culture at the foundation level.”
Revealing that she has been an admirer of the magazine for long, Omkaareshwari said that she was one among the people who eagerly wait for the arrival of “Taranga” every week to the market. She also said that she did not miss a chance to read Editorial page.
