Udupi, March 1: Dr K S Nataraj was awarded by ‘Nova Mix Gold Medal’ which was given to best post-graduate student of Manipal KMC medical division.
Dr S S Shrikanta gland specialist of Bangalore was awarded gold medal and Manipal university chancellor Dr Raj Variyar was awarded certificate on February 27th at Manipal. This award will be specified from last 7 years by KMC medical decision.
Dr Shrikanta gave a brief lecture about ‘Insulin-today’ and ‘tomorrow’. Dr Raj Variyar presided over the function. Manipal university Registrar Dr G K Prabhu, Medical inspector Dr T V Raghuraman were chief guests. Division chief Dr R Balasubrahmanyam gave introductory remarks. KMC dean Dr Shripathi Rao gave mementoes to the guest. |

Udupi: Rs. 10 cr. for St. Mary’s Island development - 3/1/2009
The HinduUdupi: MLA K. Raghupati Bhat said on Saturday that the St. Mary’s Island, near Udupi, would be developed under public-private participation.
He was speaking after performing the earth breaking ceremony for the concreting of the Kavi Muddana Road and distributing various facilities to beneficiaries belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes at a function organised by the Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC) here. The road would be concreted at a cost of Rs. 80 lakh.
Mr. Bhat said that Rs. 10 crore had been set aside by the Government for the development of St. Mary’s Island. The State Government was committed to providing better infrastructure in urban areas. It had provided a special grant of Rs. 15 crore each for the development of city municipal councils in district headquarters in its budget for 2009-10. Development projects worth Rs. 30 crore would be taken up in these cities in next two years. “This will help in taking up major developmental works in Udupi,” he said.
The Government had granted Rs. 5 crore and Rs. 2 crore each to taluk headquarters and small towns having town municipal councils and town panchayats, respectively, in its budget. The development of urban areas would be done through the Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation (KUIDFC), he said. While the Congress party was merely showing lip sympathy for weaker sections such as the Schedule Castes and Scheduled Tribes, the BJP was providing facilities for them, Mr. Bhat said.

Byndoor: ‘Mookambika Road Baindoor’ - 2/27/2009
UdayvaniKundapur, February 27: Baindoor railway station which is rapidly developing day by day has been renamed as ‘Mookambika Road Byndoor’ by state government on February 26.
The order will come into an effect on February 26th. This is a success for the Baindoor railway station heisting committee and Mookambika Yatri Sangha , K Venkatesh Kini president of Mookambika railway Yatri Sangha said in a statement.

Byndoor: Stoppage of Rails - 2/27/2009
UdayavaniBaindoor, February 27: Konkan Railway committee has announced stoppage for two summer special rails in Baindoor for the convenience of Kollur pilgrims.
The following services will be available from April 8th to June 4th.
No.165 Down Dadar – Ernakulam Rail will leave at 12.45 noon on every Wednesday and reach Baindoor next early morning at 4.05o’clock . And will reach Ernakulam at 4.00pm.
No.166 Up Ernakulam – Dadar rail will leave at 11.45pm every Thursday and will reach Baindoor next day early morning at 11.00am at Baindoor. And will reach Dadar on next day.
No.167 Down Dadar – Koochuveli-Dadar rail will leave Dadar at 12.45 noon every Saturday and will reach at Baindoor next day early morning at 4.05am. And on the same day will reach Koochuveli at 9.00pm.
No.168 Up Koochuveli – Dadar rail will leave at 8.50pm every Monday and will reach Baindoor next day early morning at 2am. And will reach Dadar evening at 4.40pm.
According to K Venkatesha Kini - President of Mookambika Railway Yatri Sangha, Trains are provided stoppages at Udupi and Baindoor only.

Malpe: Boat catches fire, fisherman from Kerala dies - 2/27/2009
The HinduUdupi: A fisherman was killed when a gillnet boat anchored at the Malpe fisheries harbour caught fire accidentally on Thursday morning.
According to Malpe police, fisherman Anthony (31), resident of Poonthura near Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, was sleeping in a boat which accidentally caught fire at around 2 a.m. on Thursday. The fisherman died of suffocation, the police said. A case has been registered.
Seven other fishermen sleeping on the deck of the boat, however, escaped unhurt.

Byndoor: Surveyor in the net of ‘Lokayuktha’ - 2/25/2009
UdayavaniByndoor, February 25: ‘Lokayuktha’ official raided tahsildar’s office and surveyor red handedly while excepting bribe. People of the area complained that they were harassing them by demanding bribe.
Revenue officials were not co-operating properly with the people who came for their work done from far away villages they complained.
One Rama Devadiga was trying to get his land officially measured since one and a half years. The surveyor Prakash was surveying by demanding Rs. 2 lakhs.
Rama Devadiga then approved the Lokayuktha officials and the plan was hatched to raid the surveyor on 24th.
Surveyors and when he was Lokayuktha officials pounced and arrested him and he was produced before the court. This is department trapped by Lokayuktha officials.
Lokayuktha DYSP Prabhu Dev Mane, Lokayuktha circle inspector Belliyappa and Shridhara participated in the raid.
