Udupi: K Lakshminarayan Mayya North Canara District Panchayath CPO is no more - 2/17/2009
UdayavaniUdupi, February 17: K Lakshminarayana Mayya (54yrs) – North Canara District Panchayath Planning Officer breathed his last at Manipal hospital on February 13th due to illness.
Earlier he served as Udupi District Statistics Officer, and recently he was promoted as North Canara District Panchayath Planning Officer.
Mayya is originally from Gujjadi of Kundapur Taluk. He has started his service in the range of an Assistant Statistical Officer. In Kundapur he served as Social Welfare Officer. On promotion, he served as District Statistics Officer in South Canara, Shimoga, Hasan, Chikmaglore and Udupi. He was promoted as Joint-Director and appointed as CPO of Karvar Zilla Panchayath.
He leaves behind his father, wife and three sons.

Udupi: Komu Souhardha Vedike stages dharna - 2/17/2009
The HinduUdupi: The district unit of Karnataka Komu Sauharda Vedike staged a dharna in front of District Police Office here on Tuesday against the alleged anti-people policies of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government and deteriorating law and order situation in coastal districts.
They also protested against the recent abduction of the daughter of the Manjeshwar MLA C H Kunhambu, harassment of Pattabhirama Somayaji, English teacher at the University College, Mangalore, and the reactionary policies of sangh parivar and Sri Rama Sene.
They demanded the dismissal of Home Minister V.S. Acharya for failing to address lawlessness in Dakshina Kannada district. Memorandum
In a memorandum submitted to Superintendent of Police Pravin Pawar and addressed to Governor Rameshwar Thakur, the vedike demanded immediate action on all these issues.

Udupi: Lions Governor’s visit to Udupi Lions Club - 2/16/2009
UdayavaniUdupi, February 16: Udupi district governor H P Basappa paid an official visit to Udupi Lions Club on 14th February and participated in various programs of the club.
In the presence of district governor, the flag post constructed at the cost of Rs.15000 with the help of Udupi Taluk Industrial Co- Operative society was inaugurated, donated cash and 25 pairs of shoes to the children of ‘Asha Nilaya’, meals facility to the orphans of ‘Shri Krishna Seva Dhama’, blankets to the adults of the Korangrapadi oldage home, provided tools to district hospital’s physiotherapy institute, donation to 3 poor students, free eye check up and spectacles distribution camp for the students of Alevoor Nehru School, Rs. 5000 donation to Kukkikatte Shanthinikethana School and two talented students were honored. Former district governors Ravindranath Shetty, Wilfred R D’souza, Secretary Indu R Bhat were present in the press meet.

Kundapur: Law Awareness-Assistance Training - 2/16/2009
UdayavaniKundapur, February 16: Free law awareness and assistance camp was held at Agricultural co-operative banks suvarna convention hall , Amasebail.
Camp was jointly organized by taluk law assistance committee, Kunadapur advocate union Kundapur, Shree kshetra Dharmastala rural development scheme, ‘Pragathibandhu swa sahaya sangha’ federation of Amasebail and Machattu.
Senior civil advocate Shivanna inaugurated the camp. G Santhosh Kumar Shetty president of Kundapur advocate union presided over the function.
A G Kodgi of Amasebail charitable trust, chief civil advocate K G chintha, First grade civil judge Hallura Hemalatha Basappa, Additional civil advocate Geethanjali, B K Narasimha Shetty president of agricultural co-operative bank, advocate A Shankar Narayan Kodgi were present. Brahmavar: Nandini Cow shed inaugurated - 2/16/2009

Along with the cow, a school will be built in Neelavara protection for the weaker section like handicapped, polio infected children and give them full fledged training in personality development, explained Vishweshwa Thirtha Shripada of Pejavara Matt. He inaugurated new cow shed ‘Nandini’ on 15th February, and gave blessings. On the occasion Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat inaugurated the Sita river water supply project to the shed. ‘Janmanakshatra’ shanti for Shri Vishwaprasanna Thirtha Swamiji of Pejavara Matt was perfomed. Entrepreneur of Mumbai Arun Nagendra Acharya and family who bore the full expenses of constructing the cow shed were honored.

UdayavaniUdupi, February 16: The presenciation which cannot come out of commercialization, the yakshagana art has gain public appreciation by its overall beauty said advocate Kadekaru Shrinivas Hegde.
He was speaking as chief guest of 23rd annual day function of Bolje Shree Brahmabaidarkala ‘Yakshagana Kala Mandali’, Udyavara.
Parameshwar Rao Udupi sub registrar officer presided over the function. Yakshagana artist , makeup artist Uppinakote Krishna Marakala were honoured on behalf of the institution. ‘Guruvandane’ offered to mandali director Guru Thonse Jayanth Kumar.
Raghunatha salian president of Garodi seva samithi, Jagannath Salian honorary president of Yakshagana Mandali, U Shrinivas trustee of Kedar’s Yakshini Vasuki Subrahmanya Dharmanadu Kshetra were present.
The scholarship’s was distributed to the talented students of children yakshagana training camp. Chandrashekar Kotian president of association welcomed the gathering. Udupi: LIC launches ‘Jeevan Varsha’ - 2/16/2009
The HinduUdupi: The Udupi Division of Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India launched its close-ended, guaranteed money back plan “Jeevan Varsha” here on Monday.
Addressing presspersons here, the senior divisional manager of LIC of India, Uma Rao, said that the Udupi division had a target of covering one lakh customers under this plan. It aimed at collecting a premium of Rs. 120 crore. The plan would be marketed for a limited period between February 16 and March 31.
The Udupi division of LIC has jurisdiction over the districts of Udupi, Dakshina Kananda and Chikmaglur.
“The Jeevan Varsha is a money-back plan with two policy terms of nine years and 12 years. Its premium paying term is restricted to nine years for both the plans. This has been done keeping in view the preference of people for short duration policies. It offers guaranteed additions of Rs. 65 for every Rs. 1,000-sum assured for a year for a nine-year term, and Rs. 70 for Rs. 1,000-sum assured for a 12-year policy,” Ms. Rao said.

Udupi: ‘Deploy CRPF in Udupi district’ - 2/15/2009
The HinduUdupi: Former High Court judge M.F. Saldanha said on Saturday that there was total breakdown of law and order in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.
He was speaking at a symposium on “Universal brotherhood and humanity”, organised by Human Relation Front, here.
Justice Saldanha said the Centre should deploy Central Reserve Police Force in these two districts. Stating that attacks on minorities were going on since September 14 in the State. They were the common target of fringe groups in these districts, he said a major overhaul of the Police Department was essential here.

Udupi: ‘Promote cottage industries’ - 2/15/2009
The HinduUdupi: President of Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC) Dinakar Shetty said on Saturday that it was necessary to encourage cottage industries to fulfil Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of “Gram swarajya”.
He was speaking after inaugurating the “Khadi and handicrafts exhibition” organised by the Khadi and Village Industries Board, here. Mr. Shetty said that the global economic meltdown had affected the artisans and those working in cottage industries. Hence, it was necessary to provide all necessary support to these artisans, he said.
Chairman of ZP standing committee on Agriculture and Industry Janardhan Tonse presided over the programme. Lead district Manager Satyanarayana and joint director of District Industries Centre S.G. Hegde were present.
